You

You

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg

Written for the late Thomas James Diffenbacher!

YOU

You made me, finally, look at myself,

A powerhouse lost on a dusty shelf;

You gave me back those things that have always been mine,

A hearty, healthy body and a pure thinking mind;

You reminded me that life is only for the living

And that happiness is only achieved by giving;

Your pleasure gives me more than I can describe

And its beauty radiates from me inside;

You are all and more that love is meant to be;

You are the other half of the whole of me;

You know that I am where you belong

And to think of you any other way is all wrong;

All my life, I wandered aimlessly, in the dark,

Looking for the mystical place where you left your mark;

I never really knew that I was looking for you,

But once I found you, I most assuredly knew;

Your touch is like touching myself through my heart;

A hint of your displeasure with me, quickly, rips me apart;

When you look at me, I feel the love in your eyes;

Each moment I spend without you, a precious part of me dies;

You gave me back the music that life's tragedy took away

And being with you eases my memories of sadder days;

To watch you is to see art in its perfect form;

You are the core of the world into which I was born;

You draw me to you like a magnificent magnet

And once I possess it, I can not  force myself to leave it;

You mean more to me than eternal poetry can say;

You are an infinite sun that brightens, both, night and day;

Without you, I would no longer really exist,

Because you are everything, once, lost in the mist;

You are the prize I have fought life for;

You are yesterday, today, tomorrow, and more.

Beautiful piece-- the rhythm and flow was a bit off for me, but the emotion and beauty that emanated from yours words definitely made up for it.

Great job!!!
