SHADOWS OF MEMORIES

When I am alone in my room,

They cast haunting shades of gloom;

If I go somewhere, from my past,

I remember the time I visited last;

Immortal image of a beautiful day

Makes my heart smile the blues away;

There are many worn trinkets of my travel

That tell of adventures, as they dustily unravel;

Mystical disasters that we can not redo,

But they hurt us repeatedly and somehow grew;

The stepping stones toward tomorrow

Are made of happiness and some sorrow;

When we leave behind our yesterdays,

We carry on the shadows of memories.

I like memories, for the most part, because even the bad ones, seem to be enriched by time.
