The Affair

The Affair

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg
"

This was not really an affair, but it felt like one; my first love, after 14 years in my second marriage. Written for the late Thomas James Diffenbacher!

"

THE AFFAIR

The fires of lust

Are fed by the flames of Hell;

The veins of false hope

Lock us in reality's jail;

The blind illusion of love

Is a passing dream we share;

The bond of frenzied desire

Makes us believe we really care;

The truth of the fantasy

Is a secret that holds us together;

The lies of happiness

Are the tears of our laughter.

MEET

        STARE

                 IGNORE

         STARE

                             TOUCH

  DENIAL

                             TOUCH

             PASSION

                          SHAME

              PASSION

                                    LOVE

       GUILT

                                    LOVE

                HATE

                HATE

I like the words you used to describe the beginning of ' an affair'...also how you placed them .. desire and the forbidden , a powerful aphrodesiac ..i think i spelled that wrong!
Sometimes fantasy seems more enticing than reality.. this is sad in a way and very emotional .. nice!

Yeah I can see that this poem can pretty much hold other meanings other than an affair but it still works fine that way. Your choice of words are wonderful and contain just the right amount emotion in them. Great Poem.

Keep Writing. ^___^

well written. The fact that it was an internal affair makes it even better.

Very artistic. Loved the idea with those stains of love.. hate... denial...Jean Genet said, anyone, who hasn't experienced the ecstasy of betrayal knows nothing about ecstasy at all. It is teaching without wanting to teach, affairs are the beginning of long-term misery.

Yes the emotion we can bring out in passion wanted or un-wanted. I like the poem. Direct and to the point. Nothing as good as being free and uncontrolled. I like the ending. A outstanding poem.
