Where are you?

Where are you?

A Poem by Anne’sRants

I stood alone
In the crowd

Where are you?
Where are you?

The buzz filled
my ears
every conversation
crystal clear

None from you.
None from you.

I was tired
of these one-sided
arguments;
You were quiet.

What to do,
What to do.

My voice echoed
back to me-
a thin
little tune.

Leaving soon,
Leaving soon.

Where are you?
Heart relentless
empty in this
crowded room

What to do?
My mind,
as always,
filled with you

I'm leaving soon
I'll have you know-
The threat as empty
as the tune.

But, losing heart,
I turned to go
stepping quickly
to the door

Staying hand
to stiffened shoulders;
almost lost,
never colder.

"Here I am,
But where were you?
Your heart left mine
in the other room."

This is true
This is true

I pictured me and my husband at our family reunion at Christmas. Our tenth and last Christmas together. He walked out on us after that, me and our three children.

I don't know if it's me or you, but you have a way of bringing back memories, both good and bad. I'm loving your work. For me, when a few words in a line can replay a whole moment in life, that's talent.

I'll bet you thought you weren't being considered only to find out he/she was thinking the same about you. ha Funny how that happens sometimes.

Very true. Its easy to think others mean more to you than you do to them.
to feel alone in a crowd....been there, done that.
felt this for sure.
we end up being both sides of our conversation...imagination of the other...
and we feel separated from ourselves when we lose someone we love...
and songs just play in the background but never sound the same.
