The lineupA Poem by Anne’sRants
"Can we go,
before the sun bleeds on the sky?". Booted feet tap loudly on the floor; The question posed-a little lady with brown eyes "Why the wait?". She demands to the listless crowd "Why not go now". A china doll among the down The lineup stretches longer and milling throngs clatter shifting restless, they mutter in foreign tongues, they wonder Still they wait nothing moving now They stare at the oarsmen Darkened mantle, shadow crown Cloak pulled up tightly As if warding off the chill Face hidden; eyes shine brightly Through the darkness of his will Confused now, she looks around Silent in her grief Where is she, what's going on? She shivers like a leaf Old fossils stare blankly back Silent in their tomb telling stories of their own "Come now, there is room" The oarsmen gestures shakily with bone hands in the gloom "It's time" he states-not unkindly "Come now, there is room" The lost souls churn restless in the land of twilight life Time does not exist here in the starless night
