The Mime

The Mime

A Poem by Christiane Hart

Smiling, I hide
Nobody knows what lies beneath
The mask I wear, rooted firm
Covers all but the most violent emotions

A flash of teeth, parted lips
A friendly glance obscures the truth
I lower my lashes, you see shy, or coy
While like the eternal sphinx
Smiling, I hide
