Love, Limited

Love, Limited

A Poem by Christiane Hart
"

Limited or Unlimited? Which is really Love?

"

Why do you limit love?
Even as a child, you loved mother and father
Your love for one didn’t negate your love for the other
You loved grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings
Most of you still had room to love friends, pets, toys

As we mature in love, most of us have heard it
That loving someone is wanting what is best for them
Why then, is your love so conditional
You can only love if the other fits your box of criteria
One step outside the line and that love disappears?

Love, even when it hurts
How many even attempt that sort of love
Where you give everything for the other’s joy
Where you’re happy knowing that they are, too?

Have you walked in my shoes?
Have you thought what it feels like, to be me?
I hear all about you, your feelings " what about mine?
You can’t even stop to listen?

You don’t love me.
I have lived in love of you, done my time
Now, I need to love myself.
I need to walk away.
