MasksA Poem by Christiana MarieA three A.M writing
Everyone has a mask
Some people wear it around their family Some wear it around their friends And some wear theirs all day long, around everyone. Everyone has a mask Whether it be someone playing off sadness, Or someone wishing to seem more proper We all have a side of us that we don't allow others to see. Everyone has a mask And some people have multiple masks For multiple people or multiple scenes Sometimes it's hard to keep track of the masks we wear... Everyone has a mask At the end of the day we remove them We hang them on the wall next to tomorrow's clothing It is at night when we reveal who we really are... Everyone has a mask My mask happens to be a Glassglow smile I'll smile to my ears if it means I can pull off the word happy As long as I can fool everyone else, I can fool myself right? Everyone has a mask It's at night we see who we really are When we've removed the mask(s) we wear And have to stare at ourselves in the mirror Everyone has a mask My mask seems to be getting tattered I don't know if it's really hiding my sadness Maybe I need to just come clean Everyone has a mask Oh god I can see right though it It has become opaque My mask cannot hide the emotion that my eyes portray all too well If I can see right through it, how many other people can as well? Everyone has a mask Why do I even wear this thing? It's making me sick. Swallowing my sadness into the pit of my stomach. Walking on egg shells to make everyone else happy Everyone has a mask I took a match to my mask It was making me sick I don't need it to be beautiful Everyone has a mask It's okay not to be okay You don't need to hide your sadness It is what makes you human Everyone has a mask But I say, take them all away Show your raw emotions for the world to see Don't be ashamed of how you feel It would be like apologizing for being human . Everyone has a mask But that doesn't mean everyone should . © 2016 Christiana MarieReviews
