A Look in the Mirror

A Look in the Mirror

A Poem by Chrissy Marie
"

Self-actualization from a nerd who has had trouble fitting in

"

I see my reflection.
Every pore, every flaw.
My eyes are too big.
My teeth are crooked.
The light of life is fading from my face.
But why?

I've always been called ugly.
Always an outcast.
Always limited from being more.
Is that my fault or societies?

All of these thoughts build as soon as I have found a glimpse of self-esteem.
Someone enters, someone leaves, the promise of acceptance fades.

Perhaps it is me.
Perhaps I could be a better person.
Perhaps I could build confidence by myself.
Perhaps I don't need anyone else.

These thoughts build from one look in the mirror.

Maybe one day they'll be different.
Maybe one day I'll feel like myself again.
Maybe one day I'll recognize myself.
Maybe one day after one look in the mirror I won't be a stranger anymore.

Hi... I'm in Dewitt County myself... East Lansing.

Mirrors lie ya know... they mainly tell us what we "expect" to hear - seldom a truth. Seems our peers spend their lives being more than we are - least that is how WE see it - true or not. And other people WILL put you down for free - don't make them unemployed by doing their job! A lot of our "ugly" is in how we see ourselves NOT in how we actually are. For real now - how many mirrors did you break yesterday by looking in them?!? Thought so. I even found out stainless steel wrinkles - figures huh?

And if for real you don't fit yesterdays standard of a Beauty Queen wait til tomorrow cause they change everyday.

Come by and say "hi" - I bite but not meanly.
