A Lost Soul

A Lost Soul

A Poem by ChrisTurner
"

We all had friends that relied on drug use to numb the pain. This is a poem about one I knew and their life.

"
I had this friend, That I'll love to the very end
But he got trapped between a rock and a pipe
He even sold his daughters bike
Just to get his fix, Even though he had mental conflicts
It didn't matter because he got the rock that he bought
He use to be a college student, Till he made some decisions that were stupid
Like the girl he was with
First night they met, they exchanged each others sweat
She told him "Don't worry I use contraception"
"You don't need to use protection"
It sounded good to his perception
9 months later, they had a daughter
Who was a spitting image of her mother
But not of her father
See the kid wasn't his, He didn't know though
She just needed someone to pay the bills
While she was out on the street to get her cheap thrills
with other guys,  He loved her no surprise
You should of saw his eyes, He felt like dying
So he packed up his things and left with the daughter
Even though in the background she was crying
Her bedroom stories became talk of the town
He never got up from feeling this down
Until his daughter said "Daddy I love you and I never want to see you frown"
He knew what he had to do, So he got up and got a job that was full time
And told his daughter " Don't worry baby girl, You'll always be mine"

i like the story to this poem and the hopeful light at the end. even though he led this self-indulgent life, he found something to work for, even a child that wasn't even his. he found a humane side to himself in the end

This was great, I like it. He turned around from a terrible life to a good life for his daughter that wasn't even his? That's the best possible thing you could do for a child. :) I like it!

I do like. He turned it around for his baby girl, best ending possible.
