The Bare Necessities Best Man SpeechA Story by Chris M. MonksA short take on a speech I gave last year.
When you took her by the hand and asked her to marry you, it was like Aladdin asking Jasmine,
"Do you trust me?" Just like Jasmine, she said yes. And then Aladdin and Jasmine took a leap. Today, the two of you took the leap. Couples, when taking the leap, often expect to land somewhere in Wonderland. Wonderland is like marriage in that there are wonderful times and moments while others are distorted from reality. It's in the distorted moments that worry, confusion, frustration, and anger set in. But it's also in the distorted places that the biggest blessing of marriage sets in. It's called "hakuna matata." Couples have one another to comfort each other; provide a shoulder to cry on; a back to lean against; and they each have words to encourage. When those things are done, the distorted moments of worry, confusion, frustration, and anger fade until life seems bearable. Hakuna matata. It means "no worries for the rest of your days." I raise my glass to toast you and to bless you and leave you with the best advice I know to give: Hakuna matata! © 2015 Chris M. Monks |
