Bob and JaneA Poem by Chris38A young couple go ape for each otherJane worked in the typing pool
Been there since she left school One day while she was changing a ribbon In walked a handsome gibbon Jane offered him a cup of tea At least I think it was a he She pulled out a chair Her biscuits she did share She decided to call him Bob She talked to him about her job She asked if he'd like a walk He didn't answer for gibbons can't talk They strolled around the streets of the town while Bob wore a strange frown They went down to the beach hand in hand Strolled together along the sand She took Bob home to meet her mother She introduced him to her brother Her mother smiled and said hello Her brother looked a little yellow Jane asked if Bob could stay Her mother said "Of course he may" Jane made up a spare bed But Bob slept on the floor instead Jane slept through the night Woke up to a day sunny and bright She went down to the breakfast table Where Bob was eating all he was able They walked to work to save some money Folk looked at them a bit funny At work she took her usual place Bob spent the day gazing at her face They walked home when the day was done Walked through the streets under the setting sun That night Jane had steak and kidney pies Bob just gazed into her eyes They spent the weekend together Went walking though it was horrible weather Jane chattered away in her sweet voice Bob said nothing for he had no choice .................................................................................................................................................. Monday morning and men were at the door There must have been seven of them or more They asked which one was Bob Jane burst into an uncontrollable sob They'd come to take Bob back home They said he had no right to roam They ignored Jane's impassioned pleas Led Bob away with amazing ease .................................................................................................................................................. If you go down to the zoo this weekend You may see a girl who comes to see her friend You'll find her talking to a big ape While folk watch with mouths agape © 2011 Chris38Author's Note
