THE END OF THE UNIVERSEA Poem by Chris38An eternal pursuit.
I chased you across the country while you ran ahead
Pursued you across the ocean while you sprinted on Followed you across a continent but you forged way ahead Raced across the whole Earth but you showed no signs of slacking Caught up with you at the World's end but you stopped for nothing Almost caught you by the Moon but you gained a second wind On and on we ran past the innermost planets while I heard you laughing away Past the outer planets you led me and my determination never flagged Almost lost you among the stars but your bright light shone brighter and truer Beyond the Milky Way and still you you kept me running on Through galaxy after galaxy I continued the chase no quarter asked for nor given Till at the end of the universe you came to a stop for there was nowhere left to run You turned to face me and you smiled your cynical smile laughed your cynical laugh I reached to embrace you and in a flash you were gone no trace of flesh or bone I retraced my steps across the wide universe but I found neither hide nor hair I searched everywhere for that light though soon even the memory began to fade Soon I forgot you all together and I made the long journey home Reached home and you were standing there shining as brightly as ever Then you began to run.............. © 2011 Chris38Author's Note
