Silhouette of a Suicide

Silhouette of a Suicide

A Poem by The Mad Hatter
"

A broken heart can lead people to do a lot of drastic things.

"

Staring out my window,
I see her silhouette
far below the sterling moon;
her secret I have kept.

She sits there on the bridge,
staring at herself
in the reflection of the lake.
Who knows what pain she’s felt?

She cannot be with him;
the one for whom her love is strong.
She knows she has no choice;
it won’t be that way for long.

Her tears disturb the surface;
a breeze blows through her hair;
she stands upon the ledge;
saying goodbye to a world that’s not been fair.

I blink for just a second
and when my sight returns,
her silhouette has gone,
in my mind, her image has been burned.

An image of a maiden
lost within her mind;
a maiden who was broken;
a maiden past her time.
