Captivated

Captivated

A Poem by Erik Crowder

I stand on the corner
Watching as you cross.
You seem to wander in circles
Lingering in the street
As cars rush past,
Oblivious to the river raging around you.

I start to make a move,
To reach out to you,
But the vacant look in your eyes
Says it all.
You don't know what it is you do,
Nor why you do it.
You merely drift along
Narrowly avoiding disaster.

I start to ponder,
How is it you ended up in your predicament?
Were you placed there?
Did you unwittingly stumble
Into these inescapable rapids?
However it is you ended up here
I stand on this corner in wonder,
At how you have not succumbed
To the turmoil enveloping you.
