The Buffoon and the FoxA Poem by ChopsYou'll find neither walrus nor carpenter here. The Buffoon and the Fox The sun was shining on the sea Shining with all his might At Sea Ranch and La Jolla For at both they’d spent the night And this was apt, because it was The times it'd felt most right. The moon was shining sulkily 'Cause you claimed her as your "friend" When actually, she raises 'ere Each day comes to an end "It’s very rude of you," she said "To clam friendship as pretend." The Sad Buffoon and Slithery Fox Were walking hand in hand Upon the levees strong and wide That hold River from the land And this was mem'ry making 'Cause a Citizen Cope'd the band. "The time has come," the Buffoon said "To talk of many things Of shoes, kayaks, and Oban fifths Of opulent blue-boxed rings And why my tea’s not boiling hot And whether I should sing." "Another meal," the Fox did ask "What I would want, won't say But let me hold and wait for you Can you come out to play? I am as wet as wet can be I taste like break of day." "Oh Fox, will you come be with me For weeks and weeks
and weeks"? "I can't," replied the Fox (It's his "availability" she seeks) And yet his acts, his words, attentions dear His love, true love,
bespeaks. "I weep for you," the Fox did say "I deeply sympathize." With sobs and tears she spoke her love As full, broad moon did rise Then crossed her arms across her chest So better to disguise. Dear Fox, I think you want me too At times your heart's
a flutter But pride, oh pride, and fear of hurt Withholds, won’t melt
like butter And so our arms are empty now © 2022 Chops |
