Rusty’s New Year’s Celebration

 Written by T. L. O’Neal

New Year’s eve was coming fast,

there wasn’t much time to prepare.

So many things that needed doing,

he better get ready and fix his hair.

He decided to go to Times Square,

to celebrate with all the folk.

It was starting to get cold outside,

so he put on his winter cloak.

Then Rusty the cat wondered,

what would he do for the New Year.

When the ball dropped he looked,

and out of his eye came a tear.

He toasted the New Year,

as he sang “Auld Lang Syne.”

Then he lifted up his glass,

and drank his catnip wine.

To the mice that he would miss,

he shouldn’t have eaten them all.

Now all he has to play with is,

his old red fuzzy ball.

Rusty the cat was looking forward,

to New Year’s Day he thought.

With all the good things to eat,

that his mama and daddy bought.

With pork roast, black-eyed peas,

greens and fried cornbread too.

This made him so excited,

that he let out a happy mew.

He wants to watch some football,

and the Rose Parade is the best.

Then it’s time for a big catnap,

to get some sleep and rest.

Then when the day is all over,

he’ll think back on it and smile.

Only another year he thought,

that’s not even a country mile.

Then when the day is all over
He'll think back on it and smile
Only another year he thought
That's not even a country mile ... Priceless!

... "And drank his catnip wine," that's about the most poetic and creative thing I've read lately. I love it because it made me smile. One thing is for sure, our pets mean the world to us and then some. If I ever get to go to Times Square, I wanna go with Rusty. lol

Rusty is one cool Cat. you did a great job with this. :+)

Rusty is a SMART cat!!! He is looking back over the year and thinking about the things he has done....and thinking ahead to the wonderful new year and the day of festivities to come...that is what we do when we celebrate New Year's Eve..and New years Day....I love the way that the author had the second and fourth lines rhyme...He is clearly gifted.....

Hi Old Friend!
So good to see you back here.
I'm on and off on this site:
moody as hell as usual but much
more stable and happy.

I'll catch up with you Monday night,
lots going on. And I want to hear how
you are doing

Spent the summer catching trout and fishing
in the Hudson for Blues and eels.

Love the cat poem even better the second time!
Slainte, Jack

p.s. Slowly getting over the Swine flu and confined to bed
and respiratory treatments at the hospital. Hope it missed you
and your family.

Well, I know I am very late at reviewing this, sorry about that, I found it buried in my library. A great and fun poem. I wish my new year was as lovely as Rusty had, lol. Very imaginative piece. XX

Thoroughly zany and atmospheric to the core. Rusty the cat totally rocks!

Great to see you haven't lot your unique knack for creating memorable works of with and verve. I'm glad I'm back to experience all the Cafe based goodness once again.

It's been toooooo long. ;)

Ha! This is clever and a lot of fun, TL! I'm sorry I've been so long responding, but have been down all through the holidays with a bad flu virus! Hope you had a good holiday season, and wish you much luck in the coming year!

Such fun!
Kittys are the best.
The last verse really says it all,
for us humanoids too.
Kissed my new love as that ball went down
my balls went squish!
Slainte,
Jack
