The Wrong ColorA Poem by Gionelly KissA relationship between a black boy and a white girl produces an illegitimate child. The abuse the child and girl encounter are blamed on "the wrong color."A hateful glance upon a wicked face Precariously rumbled over the little one’s peace A sharp lash from unfeeling hands Astounds just briefly the watching, judging eyes A tear upon a broken face of hope Mingles upon the blood-filled river of distaste One single action undeterred by fate Produces a cacophony upon a perfect predestined path One ripple by pebble of desire Acclaims tentatively that Independence rules unbound One pain upon another piles high, a prickly bale of hay Making the needle of success impossible to find Two beings intertwined at birth Pick one and leave the other the doctor said Two choices of love or hate Adding to the burden that must escape Two ignorant fools, one action Marauding all her innocence of beauty all desired Three times her father locked her up Plenty she escaped in search of one true love Three weeks, three months, three days And then the tears upon the pillowcase outside the door Three times with him and then alone Moreover with their child blending then upon the asphalt floor A simple story of boy and girl Pricked by thorns long ago designed A race above looks down upon Another shade below and blames A weed of failure among their breed Mainly on him for the resulting alien seed Thus, mother’s pain in violence on a little one’s face is shown A face tainted by blood unknown but obvious to all who looked Future failure fated sure for the heir of the wrong color © 2010 Gionelly Kiss |
