Competing For Air.

Competing For Air.

A Poem by Chloe Madison Taylor.
"

because not everyone has to go quietly.

"

"He who dies with the most toys wins."

Trade hours of your life for paper.

Time you will never get back.

Was it worth it?

How many dollars an hour will it take for you to waste your life?

Work for a decent sized bank account, so your kids can grow up and do the same?

Well, maybe they'll learn differently.

Fill your house up with plastic

The neighbors are watching.

Synchronize your life.

Time is real.

Time saving objects leave you with ironically less time than ever.

How many sunsets have you spent worrying?

I can see them everywhere.

People who lost to life

they never had a chance.

their lives were planned before they were even born.

I want to chase them down

and tug on their ties

and take away their briefcases.

I want to tell them its not like that,

it really doesn't have to be like that.

Someones got to do it, sure, but is that really what you want?

They will continue to invest their lives into plastic

and fill up the world

until we're all competing for air.

He who dies with the most toys...

still dies.

this reads like an answer to "hoop dreams" and i feel somewhat just the way you described in your review as i read it.

i've never been a 9 to 5er but having been a hobo, i can't bring myself to criticize the compromises people feel driven to in the pursuit of home and stability.

and yeah, i like the end... cuz it's true. Z
