Relief

Relief

A Poem by Chloe Solomon

The coolness of the silver blade against my arm
Is so calming
I quickly press and slide it against my bisep
The heat of the warm scarlet blood oozing out
I feel the pressure being relieved
With the blood goes my anger, awkwardness, fears
Temporarily
I don’t need much
just the sight of the single drop of bright red emotions is enough
I take a deep breath
Put down my knife, which is now tainted with guilt
I watch the cut
I wait until It’s stopped bleeding
Then I wipe away all the pain
I throw out the tissue
roll down my sleeve
and I breathe
For now it’s all better
For tonight I am okay
I can last another day
