The Music I Listen ToA Poem by RandomAuthorOverHereA poem on why Christian music is different.I know they're speaking, their lips are moving, How is it that there is no meaning? No purpose, no life? They're playing expensive instruments, Singing with pristine voices, But all I hear is noise. My friends are singing along, partying away, I just wish I could find a way, To enjoy this music. The singer hits a high note, her voice is beautiful, But the words make me feel dirty inside. How has music has come to this? I sing along, my heart throbbing painfully, The song sung is so sad, about love, broken, I wonder how the singer manages, With so much hurt locked inside. I leave the secular concert and my friends are laughing in the back seat, I turn on a Christian melody to get the words out of my guilty-feeling heart. "Oh, God," I whisper, "Music is so beautiful, but it's been twisted." "Just as my gut is twisting right now." This noise I heard, it was once was a song. The notes that were played, once were used to praise. And, for the first time in my life, I realized so suddenly, That without God, music is meaningless. The swoops in my familiar notes that played with my heart, Is a calling from the Creator of such a sound called music. The rhythm that makes a soul want to dance, Is pure joy from the Lord above. And, the words, yes, those words, Could hurt or heal. Wound or bless. Make a mess or, Make the pain less. Hurl thoughts of revenge, Or soothe with forgiveness. Squander time languishing, Or realizing that love will always win the fight. So, for the first time in my short life, I sang, my poorly sounding voice and all, My voice attempting a worship song, I sang. And it freed something captive inside of me. Just to be with God, Feel his hand through music. And, the change was gradual, but I was never the same. © 2015 RandomAuthorOverHereFeatured Review
