Mother Africa

Mother Africa

A Poem by Magnus
"

Africa through an African perspective

"
A place un forgotten...
Heroes born here and warriors forged..
A place of hate, a place of courage
Faith was shown here and love was lost..souls tormented here
The words in humane where mistaken for necessity...
Slaves where bought and sold here
Hope was nothing but an over price commodity
With all this we emerged from the darkness and into the light
We rose above the hate and took to forgiveness...
We chose to live not in anger but joy and freedom
We celebrate life as if we have only a day to
We are a cultured people, traditions we do not replace with foreign practices for we are a people of customs...
Freedom fights shook us but they never brought us to our knee rather they made us strong and united...Yes we struggled but the struggles made us who we are, We are African, we are proud, we are strong and we are united!! I am black and yes I am proud
I am african and yes am proud
Raised to respect elders yes am african..
Taught to knee when greeting elders yes am african
Abiding to my tradition and customs yes that's my culture..
And yes being african as nothing to do with colour but everything with love because that's what makes us "abantu" meaning human.

This is beautiful, maybe too I'm drawn in because I am learning so much in this writing about your culture and it is a proud one and you should be so. Customs and traditions of respect are wonderful. Your writing conjurs up all types of images in my mind. I see this land of beauty - and the hardships you wrote of. It is truly amazing to be able to forgive, that's a miracle to continue on in this world. Great writing. Thank you so much Magnus; love your name as well. My first is Teresa, reserved for my Father, so I use my middle, Dale. Thank you again.

Love knows no colour. Humbled with a pleasure to see a abantu with a gracious heart and warrior spirit. Splendid read and write. Thank you for sharing your words and presence. As my Cherokee Ancestors say, we are all related.

I love this poem, very good flow and word choice! I love how this poem comes from the heart! Just a few spelling errors: Hope was nothing but an over price commodity, it should be 'overpriced'
Taught to knee when greeting elders yes am African, it should be 'taught to kneel when greeting elders'
Other than that, this is fantastic! Keep writing!
