Dark. Cold. Empty.  This is who I am. These three words rep……..

“Ross, take out the trash,” Mom says.

I snap out of my thinking process to realize my mother was glaring at me the whole time. I nod and grab the trash bag from the kitchen. Open the front door with swiftness to find an Asteroid heading towards my house. Immediately, I drop and shield myself closing my eyes to feel a breeze of impact through me and I sense the dark cold emptiness from my thoughts.

“Represent me,” I say as I open my eyes to a bright shine from my window. I sit up from the floor in a bit of shock. “So it’s a dream and………..I fell off my bed again nice” In a sigh of relief. I look up at the sun with a squint of disgust. Mom keeps opening the curtains even when I tell her don’t, and she say’s I’m rude how ironic.

Taking a fifteen-minute shower , I step out and continue my routine; brushing my teeth, combing my wet damp black hair, and finally I stare at the person in front of me. The person who made it to this point. The person with dark shiny crystal eyes with the pride American features. Every day, I do this staring at the mirror thinking, “Why am I here.” As I stare some more, I thought for a guy I do use the restroom longer than needed like by 25 minutes. Eventually moving on to bust open my broken closet door to get my large selection of nothing but black clothes. Make my way downstairs to the kitchen to get a cool glass of OJ before I meet up with my cousin Damon for school.

“Roscoe,” Dad says sternly. I freeze in place.

“Yes” In an irritated voice

“I got a call from the school saying you’ve been absent for a good number of classes” Now Mom giving me the death stare

“And if I wasn’t”

“Then, I’ll take it as a very compelling lie.” As he said when the doorbell rang notifying me its Damon.

“Just don’t worry about it” I make for the door

“No, as your mother I paid hard earned cash for you to go to this private school”

“And as your father and you are my responsibility. So until you tell us what’s going on, you’re grounded”

“NO, Y'all are my foster parents, who are nowhere close to my real parents!” I snatched my backpack and took off outside to meet up with my cousin.

Damon stares at me with a concerned look “What happened?”

“Nothing” I replied instantly, “I think I’m just going to stop working besides my…….foster parents can buy their own damn anniversary gift.”

“Ok, seriously what happened?”

“Let’s just say I’m grou…….“ I notice a shadow growing bigger each second. I look back to find the source and at the corner of my eye I see a huge asteroid heading straight for my house.

“NOOOOOO” I shout at the top of my lungs. I break for my house but before I realized the asteroid came in with full force, pushing Damon and me back from the impact. I can feel rubble all over me and a major ringing is in my ears with a side of cloudy dust covering the area, but all I feel is a tear form and drip from where I lay.

And like that, my parents are gone again.

“Please ShadowFigure, he…..he……………he murdered my baby boy” The desperate woman cried uncontrollably, still sobbing she added “I don’t have much to pay but…….”

I interrupted her from the shadows I hid. “It’s not mandatory ma’am, I just needed to know he has done irreversible acts of grief.”

Just before, I took my leave. She whispers “Thank You, Hero.” Then I dispersed into the darkness of the city. Flowing through the buildings, the streets, the earth itself.

I notice the Full Moon is glistering bringing the only light upon the night. I reanimate on top a shaky skyscraper. I look down to my hands and feel as if I am at my prime, I feel the strength of the night coming upon me granting me somewhat like immortality, but how would I know what that feels like. I’m just twenty years old, then again I am a twenty-year-old mercenary who kills people or Enhanced Aliens for the better of the world. Ironically enough I myself am an Enhanced Alien, but the good kind. At least, I hope I am, but murdering is not necessarily a good thing.

I look up realizing that I am getting side tracked, but I cannot help it. I always have thoughts on everything. For some reason, I’ve changed over the period of 6 years. It’s like my inner sorrow has been released and now I can express it through my abilities.

Getting even deeper into my sidetracked state. I remembered the famous quote you always hear in movies came to me, “With great power, comes great responsibility”. My automatic thought is that nearly all the Enhanced Aliens did the exact opposite and they all benefited themselves.

As these thoughts run through my head, I reform and lurked into AncientRow’s hideout. A big broken down factory that has been here outside of the city and still standing today even before the asteroids hit the earth. I swiftly speed from room to room through the shadows checking every corner for AncientRow’s goons. Thinking about the misdeeds, he has done and other villainous opposites who took the wrong path, I feel as if I have to end their reign of terror. Even if I am doing something for the greater good, I also am in the wrong having a body count of 13 Enhanced Aliens. One of the strongest ones I faced was RetroRage. He can probably scream louder than maybe 500 Pterodactyls combined, but I………Damn it I’m getting side tracked again.

“Alright focus on the mission Ross,” I thought loudly. AncientRow is an Alien who has the power to age anything, even controlling the time periods of anything like himself or others. I spot two thugs patrolling; quietly forming dual wield shadow blades; I lunged slicing them up leaving a bloody mess. Then formed the lifeless corpses into darkness itself and moved on.

Which reminds me that woman said I was a hero; please tell me what is heroic about murdering people. Another two thugs go down. It is more of a job for me. Another four go down. No not a job, a promise to eradicate all the corrupted Enhanced Aliens. So that the same incidence won’t happen to anyone else. I thought angrily emitting intense shadows from my body and before I realized I dropped in on about thirty thugs and the man of the hour himself AncientRow. In a snap of a finger, every shadow in the room reformed into a replica of myself jumping out, slaughtering the minors, and like poof they disappeared. That leaves him and me.

I furiously stomp my way to him, engraving trails of darkness from where I stepped. Body count forty-seven! In a panic, he ages his body to a younger more athletic himself and ages the wall behind him to rubble, then takes off outside. Hearing him clatter and sprinting off like a gazelle speeding from a vicious and starving lion. Including woman and children! In a flash, I shadowspeed and phase out the wall next to him in hand; dual wield Reaper Revolvers and a slight motion with my fingers triggering a snake-like shadow zooming toward AncientRow cutting off his leg. He then fell and rolled like tumbleweed. Lying motionlessly on the ground; inching towards death with every step I take. Destroying families, destroying lives. It’s the end of the line.

With little consciousness, he ages his chopped off leg to a healed stump, realizing my presence; he heaves his body drastically. Desperately trying to escape, I stomped my foot on his back and placed my RR (Reaper Revolver) against his temple. Eyeing me as if he is seeing Death himself.

He then blurts out, “I’ll do anything you want just let me be”

I start with a friendly tone, “Ooooooh good, this should be easy. Where is Pyronite?” Ending my sentence with such tasteless disgust.

“He never tells me where he goes off to. Please, we can………”

I cut him off “Good for him. Bad for you.” I give off a bit of disappointment through my next response, “Shame.”

Cocked my weapon and shot; leaving brain splatter on the ground near the entrance of the factory.

Body Count: 14
