Because I wanted it to be you

Because I wanted it to be you

I remember the way the nights stretched long,
The city quiet beneath our footsteps,
As if the world was ours alone.
We wandered, not to find anything,
But to be"to exist in the spaces
Between words,
Because I wanted it to be you.

I remember the weight of silence
Shared between us,
Not heavy, but full"
Like the stillness of a held breath
That never felt the need to exhale.
I think love lived there,
In the pauses we didn’t try to fill,
Because I wanted it to be you.

Your touch was always unspoken,
An accidental brush of hands,
The press of your knee against mine
Beneath the table,
Fleeting but infinite in its meaning.
Even your absence felt warm,
As though the echo of you lingered
Long after you’d gone,
Because I wanted it to be you.

And in those quiet moments,
I discovered love"
Not in grand declarations,
But in the smallest gestures:
The way your gaze met mine
Like a question I’d already answered.
The way you laughed as if the world
Had never been cruel.
I loved you in those moments most,
Because I wanted it to be you.

I grew in the light of you,
Learning to love not with demands,
But with understanding.
To hold not just your hand,
But the weight of your being.
I wanted every step of this journey"
Every ache, every joy, every truth"
To be shared with you,
Because I wanted it to be you.

If love begins and ends,
Then ours was a moment suspended,
A thread stretched between two hearts
That chose to touch,
But not to tie.

And yet, even now,
Even as I learn to let go,
My heart still calls your name.
Every part of me"
The part that grew,
The part that understood,
The part that learned what it means to love"
Wanted it to be you.

So I leave you here,
Not with sorrow,
But with the quiet ache of gratitude"
For the way you taught me to see,
To listen, to hold,
And to let go.

Because I wanted it to be you,
And in some way,
It always will be.

Truly, love doesn't come with a huge commotion.. it's subtle in a sense, and beautiful in your case.. beautiful poem, and keep on writing..
