“I’m sorry I made you come,” I mumbled, looking down at our entwined hands. I felt his body go ridged beneath me. He wrapped one of his long, strong arms around me and pressed me into his warm body. 1
“It’s fine.” he whispered in my ear. His words were slightly beginning to slur and that upset me. I crinkled my forehead in disapproval and turned my head to look into his face.2
“No it’s not.” I said firmly, staring into his dark unfocused eyes. I felt horrible, this was all my fault. He hadn’t wanted to go to this stupid party at all, but I, with all my wit and charm, had talked him into coming with me. 3
Dominick has never been the type to go out and party. He doesn’t need parties like this to have a good time. He has his own ways of having fun. He doesn't like having so many people around him like this, being encaged. I’d classify him as a more privet person. Of course, I would be too if I was like him. I consider myself one of the luckiest girls in the world to be one of the few who really know Dominick.4
“What?” he asked. His tan, handsome face looked confused and his mouth was turned down at the corners. Pink lightly colored the top of his perfectly etched nose and his cheeks, making him look as if he were blushing, but Dominick never blushes. I’m the one who does all the blushing.5
"I told you not to drink the punch," I sighed, feeling a pang of guilt. “You’re drunk.” 6
“Am I?” He said in mock surprise. His hand shot up to his jet-black hair as he pushed it out of his eyes. I wasn't sure if he was really surprised, or if he was just messing around with me. I don't think Dominick has ever been drunk before. I don't even know if he's ever been to a party before. Heck, he had never even been away from his home before I had met him a year ago. An innocent smile played on his lips.7
His smile was so completely enchanting I almost forgot about his intoxicated state. When his gorgeous, boyish face twisted up like that I couldn’t help but forget everything but him. Dominick has always been so unnaturally beautiful. His soft facial features are nothing short from being, well, angelic. But his smile is above and beyond anything I’ve ever seen before. Sometimes I feel so unworthy to gaze upon something so breathtaking, words fail to describe it properly. 8
With an amazing amount of effort I managed to tear my eyes away from his dazzling smile. The basement was still over-crowded as ever and the pounding music pulsing from the stereo system was beginning to give me a headache. Even though it was still pretty early, I decided it was time for us to go. I lept off Dominick’s lap, still grasping his hand, and led him over to the exit. He followed me without any questions up the stairs and out into the back lawn. He was still surprisingly steady on his feet.9
It was so nice to be free of the cramped and crowed house. There wasn’t a single person out here in the pitch black yard. It could barley make out what lay a few inches in front of my feet. The darkness was comforting though, like a security blanket or something. I took a deep breath, inhaling the fresh night air. It had been really hot inside, I realized, and my shirt was clinging to my sticky body. 10
“I’m ready to leave now,” I said looking up at Dominick. My breath caught in my chest as I gazed up at his gentile face being bathed in the silvery moonlight. It was a spectacle more brilliant than the cosmic stars above us. His dark eyes sparkled like diamonds as he looked into my own. 11
“Do you want me to...” he looked at me hopefully and pointed to the heavens. I felt my eyes widen and I looked at him with apprehension.12
“Can you?” I breathed, “I mean, do you think you're really fit for that right now?” He laughed, a sound so beautiful it made me want to cry, and started shrugging off his jacket.13
“What am I going to do? Crash into a plane?” He chuckled some more and I was too mesmerized by the sound to say anything. He handed me his jacket and I slid my arms through it. On me, it was over sized and the sleeves hung way over my hands. It was so warm as I hugged it around my body. I inhaled his sweet smell that lingered on the jacket and smiled. That’s when the sudden fear came to me.14
“You won’t drop me will you?” I bit my lip worriedly.15
The next thing I knew I was pulled up into a loving, firm embrace. My head was pressed down into his shoulder and I felt his breath on my neck.16
“I would never do that. I would never let anything happen to you.” He whispered aggressively into my ear. My heart beat furiously in my chest, and it didn’t have anything to do with fear. I believed him fully and I trusted him completely. Even if he was a bit drunk he’d never – well, I was feeling bad now for even thinking about it. I reached my arms around him, my face still buried in his shoulder, and I felt something jetting out from his back just under his shoulder blades. With a small gasp I let go of him and backed away to get a better look.17
Dominick was standing there. Though his smile was gone, he still looked as gorgeous as he ever had. However, something even more impossibly beautiful than his face was occupying my gaze for the moment. It was his wings.18
Golden honey colored wings protruded from both sides of him, making his body seem somewhat small compared to the long, majestic things. The glossy feathers gleamed in the moon light and I forgot how to breathe. The sight of him just standing there in the semi darkness, his wings spread out to full span, was simply amazing.19
Before I knew what was going on he had scooped me up into his arms and had took a bounding leap up into the air. The sudden rush of cold air on my face made my eyes sting and water. I nestled up closer to Dominick’s warm body and I could feel his powerful wings beating the air up and down beneath them. I loved it when he took me flying with him like this. It’s the most exhilarating, awing, fantastic thing in the whole world. The sensation of soaring through the sky in only another’s arms is indescribable.20
He was an angel, my angel, even if he was a little drunk at the moment. I chuckled at the thought of a drunken angel soaring through the sky a little less gracefully than normal. He had felt my laughter and was looking down at me now with curiosity flaring in his eyes.21
“What?” he asked me over the roar of the wind whipping at our faces. I just smiled and laughed again. It was the most hilarious thought. I took my hand and gently forced his face to look away from me.22
“You just watch out for those planes.” I said, grinning from ear to ear. The corners of his lips twitched up into almost that breathtaking smile and he shifted his gaze forward. I wrapped my arms around his neck and put my head on his shoulder again. I closed my eyes against the wind tearing them up.23
“Your amazing Dominick,” I whispered, but I wasn’t sure if he could even hear me. “I love you.” 24
Then all I could hear was the whistling wind. I decided he hadn’t heard me. I tightened my grip around his neck and kissed his now ice-cold cheek.25
“I love you too.” He said, taking me off guard, and kissing me on the lips. It was simply amazing.
