Hangover

Hangover

A Poem by Brian Sherwetic
"

“LOVE? It's like a cigarette. You get addicted fast, but it slowly and painfully kills you from the inside out.” ― Alli Ward

"
A beautiful girl, and a foolish boy.
She was his heart. He was her toy.
His heart was broken, his heart was scarred.
But he gave it to her, and he fell hard.
He was addicted to her, she was playing with him.
She was his paramore, he was her sin.
Her embrace was heroine, her kiss was like meth.
She was his life, and she'd be his death.
He was the alcoholic, she was his wine.
Off her he was drunk, she made him so high.
But now she is gone, she's not coming back.
He stood and watched, as she ran down the tracks.
He's suddenly alone, it happened so fast.
So he walks the other way, back towards the past.
Feeling so trapped, enclosed by the rails,
And suffering withdrawals, that make him so frail.
Embracing the numb, he suppresses the hurt.
There he finds his heart, thrown in the dirt.
He sees it there, but keeps walking on.
He knows that it's dead, his heart is gone.
He casts out his love to escape his pain.
And does nothing but watch the oncoming train.
She destroyed his heart as she ran away,
Leaving a hangover, that will forever stay.
