looking black upon me

looking black upon me

A Poem by Philip Gaber

She smokes cigarettes while
doing deep-breathing exercises.

Drinks coffee to
reach her target heart rate.

Has a way of whispering without
sounding like a conspirator.

Is the only one I know that
doesn’t look like a fraud whenever
she’s walking in the rain.

She once told me,
“There are two things you should never,
under any circumstances, do,
while in the company of a woman:
make eye contact with her after
she’s stuffed her mouth full of food
or look directly at her when she’s
wearing sunglasses.”

She and I tried to make a go of it
back in ’90s, but she said she didn’t
like “funny, sulky men…”

Shortly after we separated,
I received a postcard from her
from San Francisco.

She was dating a man who was said to be
on “intimate terms” with her “G-Spot.”

Her “God-Spot.”

I never knew such a spot even existed.
I guess that’s why she tried so hard to convert me.

Gee
Unicorns, gold at the end of rainbows and G spots, all much talked about but never seen or found.
I like this writing style, some great lines, easy to follow with a wee bit of humour thrown in for good measure :)

I hate writing biographies. I was one of those kids who rode a banana seat bike and watched Saturday morning cartoons and Soul Train. But my mother would never buy any of those sugary cereals for us k.. more..
