Catching Feelings for the Wrong Girl

Catching Feelings for the Wrong Girl

A Story by Philip Gaber

She used to be an addict.

She used to do tricks.

But now she's 45 and loves the Lord.

She's gonna vacation in her timeshare

at Myrtle Beach in July,

which she owned with

her now deceased husband.

Today at work,

as both walked to the office to begin our shift.

She had no smiles for me.

But once she was inside the office,

her inner hooker must have come out

because she began charming all the men

we work with.

Smiling, laughing, being cute and silly.

Later, when I visited her at her post,

she smiled at me

and gave me a big, beautiful hug.

And I hugged her back.

Hard.

And she returned the hard hug.

Later in the evening, she texted me,

"I'm clocking out."

So I met her and walked her

to her 2023 Kia Soul.

Before she climbed into the vehicle,

she wrapped her arms around me

and I wrapped my arms around her and

she told me she was going to try

to get into work Sunday two hours before

her shift began.

I said, "I'll see you at 3,” and she got into the vehicle

and I walked back to my post

and thought,

“This girl is not for me, but,

I can’t stop feeling her hugs”
