Black Saltwater

Black Saltwater

A Poem by Devan McKinley

When I love I give it my all.
My every bit of everything.
So when you robbed my heart,
I wasn't left with anything.

My chest a hallow pit,
Reaching out to fill the hole.
Searching and still trying,
To dig up what you stole.

Mascara goes to waste.
Dark saline down my cheek.
But just because I'm broken,
That does not mean I'm weak.

And when you find an apology,
From the guilt in which it stems,
I hope the words don't make it out.
I hope you choke on them.
