You Lost the Best

You Lost the Best

A Poem by Devan McKinley

How do I erase every detail that has been sketched into my brain?

How is it that in five minutes you can deliver a months worth of pain?

How should I pretend that there isn't a heavy, swollen lump in my chest from your "I love you" stain?

How do I forget the feeling of your skin rested against mine?
How is it that in two days you suddenly weren't mine?

How should I trust another man whos says he'll never cross that line?

How do you erase the first time that we had sex?

How is it that in five minutes you decided your forever is your ex?

How should you pretend that what happened won't affect who you choose next?

How do you forget my hands running through your hair?

How is it that in a month you still act like you don't care?

How should you trust another woman to stick around when you're not fair?
