Waiting to Love You

Waiting to Love You

A Poem by Devan McKinley

Do you know the feeling,
When your hand spreads across a blanket, and you get a moment of bliss from what feels like the softest thing there is?

That's how I felt when you kissed me.

Do you know the feeling,
when a puppy runs to greet you, happy to be getting the most positive attention and cute as can be?

That's how I felt when you reached for my hand.

Do you know the feeling,
when you jump into the water and the cold meets your skin in an awakening but relieving way?

That's how I felt when we locked eyes.

Do you know the feeling,
when your reading a good book and the chapter leaves you on a cliffhanger, anticipation to continue in your bones?

That's how I felt when we said goodnight.

But what I want to know the most is, do you know the feeling of uncertainty when you ask someone "Black or white?" And they respond with "Gray."?

That's how I feel waiting to love you.
