Panic Attack

Panic Attack

A Poem by Devan McKinley

Clawing at the walls,
Trying to escape.
Its the screaming in the halls,
That's keeping me awake.

I've tried locking all the doors,
But it always finds a key.
Heart rate flying off the hinges,
Take a breath, ground my feet.

Now the room is spinning,
My eyes can't focus on one thing.
There's a knot in my stomach,
"You need to leave." It sings.

I've tried to ignore it,
This thing living inside of me.
Today its clear.
I share my body with anxiety.
