I Guess I Knew

I Guess I Knew

A Poem by Devan McKinley

I guess I knew,
That she would take my spot.
I'm not bitter,
But it kind of hurt a lot.

She looked so pretty,
In your bridesmaid dress.
I was trying so hard,
Not to be a mess.

I had tears in my eyes,
Thinking "My best friend is a bride."

And here I am.

I'm three rows back,
With my camera on.
He said I do,
And they played your song.

I was supposed to be there,
To hold your flowers and the rings.
And when I think of us,
My heart,
It kind of stings.

You can blame me if you want.
Point a finger,
Name the faults.

But where were you,
When I needed my best friend?
And where were you,
When my mom almost met the end?

All I needed,
Was your shoulder.
Everyday,
You turned it colder.

And I'd ask why.

There'd be a party.
Tons of drunken pictures with her.

And now I know,
Exactly where you were.
