As She SleepsA Poem by Sheri Lynn
He reaches for the softness of her cheek
Feeling the warmth of her skin
Sending chills throughout his body
Stroking her hair as he gazes upon her
Her chest rising and falling in perfect rhythm
His breath caught in his throat
Stunning
Overwhelmed by emotion
Powerless to her will as he memorizes the curves of her face
His hand gently moving through her golden locks
Taking a deep breath as his mind begins to drift
Intensity lingers in the air from making love
Heartbeat pounding through his chest
His breathing shallow but steady
Soft sounds of music still playing in the background
Soothing to hear as he slowly slips into a deep sleep
Wrapped in her arms
He sings softly with the music…as she sleeps
Intoxicating
Unwilling to move he listens to her heart beating
Astonishing
Dreams of an exceptional woman who now lies in his arms
Her perfume over coming all of his senses
He closes his eyes, playing each moment in his mind
He smiles as he lays in bliss
Angels brought what he dreamed of
Hope almost vanishing until that first click
The dance began with her returned click
Stirring she slowly moves to lie on his chest
Her hand reaches for him he takes it tenderly
Holding her closer, tighter to keep her safe
His name escaped her lips…
He kisses her forehead as tears fill his eyes
As she sleeps
