Jagged Edged Rocks

Jagged Edged Rocks

A Poem by Sheri Lynn

As the water cascades across the jagged edged rocks
Tears that begin to swell in her eyes stream down her face
Jagged edged rocks just as the piercing knife in her chest
His words ring in her ears as they play over in her mind
Reconciliation he did say, with her, our children, to be family
Momentary giddiness fills the heart replacing the sadness, loneliness
Her dreams yearning to be fulfilled by his gentle caress again
Painful feeling as the blazing emotions build with anticipation
Recalling the last conversation, he would call her later, promise
Later when, this week, this month, this year, before her death
More tears begin to fall, the once special moment replaced
Words filled with assurance, belief, indications of love to come
Were his words real or has her wishes somehow come to life
Wishes not to be but torturing her soul until her last breathe
Somehow he knows her heart, manipulating it, toying with it
Destruction of all possibilities soon to pass him by forever
Hope floats away as the tears continue to stream down her face
Assurance dwindling away as the time passes quickly by
Contact fading in the distance as the hope is set free in her tears
Like the water cascading across the jagged edge rocks of promise
