The Industry

The Industry

A Poem by Chi Nichole

I have soaked you in your thoughts.
I have taken over the place where you dwell.
I must thank you a lot.
You foolish people! Can't you see? Every single last one of you now belongs to me.
I have taken over your entertainment, your stocks.
Please don't tell me you don't know I've been controlling the way that you walk?
You see? Even your children are finding comfort in me.
Don't you see what I have done? The same thing I will continue to do until the war has been won.
I have poisoned your water. I have taken your homes. I have cursed your food.
I do not stand alone.
Those who have tried to talk, you have denied. You don't want anyone changing what is rightfully mine.
Only God knows now how much I have deceived your mind.
I am the lie to every question. The darkness in every light. I am the tears you cry and the reason
most won't find sleep tonight.
I am the war in every country and the weeping of its people. I am the shadow under every steeple.
I am every prayer you have lost. Every hope stripped away.
Now open your eyes!
Welcome to my day.
