Deception

Deception

A Poem by Chi Nichole

You drown in your own thoughts. You are weak. You are, after all, human. When you thought you couldn't take anymore
I was there. Wasn't I?
Every time you cried, stood in disbelief, smiled the fake smile you wear, or even spoke words you never meant.
I have kept every promise. Have I not? You were down and alone. You wanted someone to pick you up.
Someone to watch as you would fall. Even when you stood back up though. I made sure it wasn't for long.
Don't you see?
I love your pain and it is my duty to pick at your brain. My company has become your sanctuary and my spirit a place for you to call home.
In sadness you think. In sorrow you will weep. I love how you feel and I plan to make you emptiness real.
I love that your comfort lies within me because it is then that I can control your feet.
Faith you will never find. For I am your God now. No other will come before me and you will never be found.
How I love to watch you cry and hear each and every lie.
They will ask you, "come and join us."
You are so quick to leave. Inside of you I will forever be.
I've been so good to you. I've even given you a disguise. You wear it proudly because you don't know you are mine.
You close your eyes and try to imagine it's all unreal. You'll slip off into a daze, a fairytale.
Leaving the world is your new serenity. You know I'm here. The place you call peace has become me.
You understand. You start to get it, but you will never change it. You ask for nothing more than to be found in me.
So don't be afraid. I ask that you continue to welcome me. So open your eyes and breathe.
After all it is only me.
