KeepsakeA Poem by c.m.I know I can't, but if I could...Can I keep you in my notebook? Not one page; the entire thing filled. Can I keep you in my closet? Like the monster of a child mind. Can I keep you beneath my pillow? Let you whisper sweet words in my ear as I drift toward sleep. You words wrapping my mind like a warm blanket.
Can I keep you like the prettiest of flowers? With a grip like you might fly into the wind if I let go. Can I keep you like an old record? Worn from years of playing the same song. Can I keep you like an old photograph? Precious until the day you fade. But still there in every fiber of spirit.
Can I keep you like an old musicians guitar? Broken strings; no longer in tune. Can I keep you like a stone? Stolen from the fallen castles of old. Can I keep you like an ember? Drawn from a fire with cold hands. Can I keep you like an echo? Long since been shouted. But still ringing in my ears.
Can I keep you like a souvenier? A treasure from my minds vacation. Can I keep you in the words I've written? Perhaps in the words you have as well. Can I keep you wrapped in my memories? Will you be my keepsake? © 2010 c.m.Author's Note
