One true love

One true love

A Poem by Cheryl J. Turner

The crash of waves, relentless

The beating of hearts that cry

Never-ending tales of woe

Gazed upon by stars of the sky

I shall have my fairytale

The life that no soul knows

I shall meet my one true love

and then see how it goes

Perhaps I'm being foolish

Looking to books and tales

But why settle for fish in the sea

When I can have the eggs of quails

Do you seek redemption

In the bottom of a glass

Or in the bed of lovers many

Perhaps a trip through lovers past

I am on a journey

to a place you'll never be

I shall find my one true love

Of course, it's probably me.

Love it! It felt like something I can relate to, minus the bit about lovers past, which I am trying to avoid. The last line was just brilliant, and completely unexpected.

Had a ballad like feel to it... with the poet on a quest for ideal love... then the sudden plunge of the amusing last line... I enjoyed it :-)
