Dance to the long dead beat

Dance to the long dead beat

A Poem by Cheryl J. Turner

Days filled with thunder

It's clattering roar

Night to bring floods of rain

Beating upon your weathered door

Is none of this apparent

No eyes to gaze upon pain

Absence of embrace

Empty of surprise

All manner of distinction

To stifle my angry cries

Give me the space

Open fields in which to breathe

Held in the arms of a rainbow

Drifting in the breeze

Pass the time of being alone

Murder my lonely friend

Mine until the end

Taste revenge so sweet

Cast eyes inward

Gaze upon golden stars

Grasp a hand full of glitter

Dance to the long dead beat

I'm not sure about this... the poet drums through a refrain of anger and sadness at being alone - at the same time as relishing the freedom of the rainbow and the glitter of the stars... Intriguing and like a kind of incantation...
