A Bulgarian fantasy story I started a year ago, but never eventually sat down to write it. Chapter one.

"

Welcome to October. Old, small and beautiful island town with reserved people that did not accept anything beyond what was considered normal. Churches were decorating every other corner, the houses were small, half wood half stone and placed snugly along the paved streets. The harbor was big, filled with the boats of the fishermen, who came every day for the catch that would earn them the money to feed their families. There was one school in October, and only one playground, located at the outskirts of the town, near the sea. And what did the teens and adults do? They could be found either at the former Marine Station, serving now as a night club or the pub - Captain’s Meeting. There wasn’t much going on in October, there never was. Of course if one looked long enough at the seemingly dull scene, they were soon to find out that there was more to October that met the eye… A lot more.

Nathanail closed the history book and prepared to leave. The long first day of school was finally over and he smiled at the students that were walking out cheering. Of course you could hardly find a child their age that would be as obsessed with history as he was back when he was a student. He ran his hand through his loose golden locks and adjusted his glasses. Time to go home and take care of the little hurricanes that were his three little brothers.

He took the shortest way possible to his house, passing right by one of the oldest churches in October. It stood unfinished since before Nathanail was born. Legends spoke of a curse which led to the death of any who tried to rebuild it. The boy looked up at the uneven walls of red stone. A curse? Unlikely. But there was a secret… a secret he was going to reveal. He took a pen out of the inner pocket of his coat and quickly wrote something in the edge of the sheet with the notes for today’s history lesson. Who said October was tedious?

Off to a good start in that you given the reader a reason to read on hence "the curse of rebuilding the church". In short sample you seem to own a writers eye. I hope you continue this story, I want to read more. Richie B.
