Falling from Summer

Falling from Summer

A Poem by Alex

Tonight is a good night to breathe.
I step outside and the air is crisp;
Fall has finally arrived.
And although I’m sure Persephone was rather reluctant to take her descent into the underworld,
I was more than ready to bid the heaviness of summer adieu.
A Harvest Moon hangs in the sky,
So elegantly"
Casting a deep auburn glow on the horizon.
(bonfires and pumpkins and hazy kisses come to mind.)

I am burdened.
Tortured, carrying a load that should not be mine to bear.
My lungs will soon collapse.
So I breathe in.
I hold my breath and count to five.

    2
       3
       4
                 5
And let go.

I promise you I will learn from my mistakes.
