The River Runs Wild

The River Runs Wild

A Poem by Alex

Life feels so hard sometimes
When you’re trying to read between the lines
When you just can’t seem to shine
When everything you do is wrong
When you can’t write the perfect song
When you don’t know where you belong
When nothing feels alright
When you can’t sleep at night
When you’ve grown tired of the fight
When you feel you’re gonna crack
When you can’t brace your breaking back
When all you are is what you lack

When your heart drags on the floor
When your mind is tire and wore
When your soul screams out “No More!”
When it’s hard to think
  Hard to blink
   Hard to breathe
     Hard to be
      To believe
         To believe in belief
When you’d rather be asleep in a dream

In a dream, in a dream.
                 Once upon a dream
                    I dreamt of a place

                                    Of a face
                         Of a chase

When I couldn’t win the race,
                           Couldn’t hold the pace,

Steady.
Steady.
Steady as she goes, he says.
Steady as she goes.
STEADY as the wild river flows.

But…

But the wild river flows freely,
Not
     Steady
At               all.
The wild river flows freely,
And the crescent moon shines weakly,
And the battered heart beats meekly.

                       t
                    a      s
                 e           O
    But it  B                n.

This is quite possibly the most artistic usage of words I've seen to date, not only did you connect to the reader through your words like most of us do but also you did so visually which I commend you for. The flow is brilliant and the words are true, not only is it metaphorically a river but a river in the sense that each part gives way to the next flowing from beautiful beginning to an equally as beautiful end.

These are feelings we've all felt at one time or another, we've all been on the river and I certainly think this speaks to a wide audience considering the times we're in now, life is indeed hard and like it or not we don't really have much choice to but to soldier on and keep living because the other alternative is not a very welcoming or nice one. Well done Dreamer.
