Doomed Drinker

Doomed Drinker

A Poem by Alex

The wine was poisoned.
It must’ve been.
She had drunk deeply from the cup,
Helping herself to more than any glutton would have dreamed of doing.
But it wasn’t until the first kiss did she feel it sink in.
It burned through her veins,
Igniting her body.
Ecstasy in pain and vice versa.
“If baptism in Fire is what it takes,”
She whispered into the wine-bearer’s ear
“Then I’m prepared to go down in flames.”
