Forget

Forget

A Poem by Alex

Secret promises made with locked-lips, tangled in black sheets
Listen to the way my heart beats
Shallow, shallow.
The easy girl let you win;
Pretend.
I bet all my money on long shots
I play tag with lions
I skate where the ice is thin,
Playing chicken with God and Satan.
Watch the blood run down my thigh
Taste it with your tongue
Masochistic Ecstasy
The dark elixir will keep you young
Pathetic Poetry penned for Pretty Boys
With the best of hearts and the worst of intentions.
Quietly written ransom notes
Signed with love and sealed with desire
Never find their way to your hands,
Always closed.
I knew you couldn’t keep up,
You’ve still got so much to learn.
How to kindle the yearn;
How to handle the burn.
My tenure is up and the replacement will be in shortly.
I’ll be just fine swinging from branches,
Sipping arsenic from my canteen.
Mona Lisa learned that secret smile from me,
Just don’t tell Da Vinci.
He’s the craftsman, I am just the muse.
A boy hums “Hallelujah” off in the distance,
His fall anything but minor.
Our fall anything but minor.
But we refuse to fold, we refuse to break.
Don’t you expect me back.
Forgive, regret then forget.
Freely Forget.

This is really powerful. I love all of the tangled symbolism you use!
And these lines are fantastic!
"How to kindle the yearn;
How to handle the burn."
