The Duchess

The Duchess

A Poem by Alex

The Duchess fell in Love.
Stupid Girl, Stupid Girl.
She had to marry the Duke instead
It was the only life to lead in her world.
He ripped her dress and tore her corset
For three minutes of self righteous pleasure.
Nine months later she gave him a daughter
It did nothing to make her position any better.
The months flew quickly on by
As she fell deeper into despair
But not a single soul could tell
Beneath her mask of regal clothes and hair.
The Duchess fell in Love.
Charles Grey was his name
The two thought they could hide their love
But the Duke found out their game.
Oh, The Duke finally got his heir.
Georgiana got her heart broken.
Charles had to leave her,
An illegitimate child his only token.
The Duchess fell in Love
And it was her great downfall
But given the chance to do it over
I doubt she’d change a thing at all.
