Being the Sea

Being the Sea

A Poem by Alex
"

An assignment for english class.

"

I stand, my toes digging deeply into the rough sand,
Each miniscule grain gently grazing my skin.
Scooping up the earth, tiny crystals filter through my hand.

I look around, in awe of this beautiful world I’m in.

Salt-saturated sea breeze caresses my face;

Pungent sweet scent fills my chest.

At night, this is my favorite place.

Only here can my heavy heart rest.

Stars strewn across a moonlit sky,

Bits of fire that no hand could ever hold.

I start to think “What happened to you and I?”
As I sit on this beach all alone.

Listening to the billows crash,
Nature’s most soothing melody,
I watch reflected diamonds dance and flash,
The waves whispering somber songs to me.

There is no place I would rather be.
No place I would rather roam.
At this moment in time I am happy.
I am without you, but I am home.
