Epiphany

Epiphany

A Poem by Alex

I loved you,
Wanted you,
Needed you.
I waited for you.
Waited to hear you say that you loved me,
You wanted me,
You needed me.
I've yet to hear those words,
And I know now I never will.
You've been my playmate,
My lover, my best friend
And my world.
But never have you been mine.
Not really.
And each day I wait for you,
Each day day I hope you finally see me
Is another day I die inside.
These four years with you
Have been the best and worst years of my life.
A never-ending game of tug-o-war
With my heart.
But I am tired, dear.
The sun is setting and it's time to go inside.
I don't want to, but I know I must.
I have to let go; You have to let me.
There is a long journey ahead when I wake,
And I must take it alone.
I have to find who I am,
Because you do not define me.
I know now that you never have.
