Principle

Principle

A Poem by Alex

I can’t make you stay
Here with me
To be mine this time.
If I could,
I wouldn’t anyway.
In a way,
You never were mine.
You were hers all along.
And I?
Just a uniquely common song,
In one ear and
Out the other.
Demoted to second string
In your orchestral masterpiece
While your principle player returns
Eager to perform the solo

Written just for her.
My finale has ended;
My encore unwanted.
I lower my stand and
Take a final bow
As I exit the stage
Of your life forever.
You barely notice me leave.
Captivated,
While the 1st chair player weaves
Her deceptive magic.
She’ll move on again,
Just like before.
Off to find a new Conductor
With better solos in store.
Everything you adore
You will have let go.
This time when she goes
You will finally know I
Was principle all along
And I’ll be gone.

Being second fiddle is a tough for anybody that’s what I got from this piece. I like how this write comes together. Great job well done.
