Snapshot - Lost ValleyA Story by I Write, alrightA quick piece of flash inspired by a photograph on Tumblr
She wandered through one Valley before climbing upon the hill before her. As she stepped upon the crest of the undulation, she looked up from watching her feet move through the grass and wildflowers to see something even more wonderous laid out before her.
The color was like that of all the green in an extra large box of crayons putting their mark upon a white page. The tones scribbled together in drifts and tufts. There was something poetic and Seussian about the land laid out before her eyes.
It only took her a moment to decide that she had to lay upon this spectacle before her. To become one with this most unique of valleys. Treading carefully in every attempt to not leave a trace in the land behind her, she moved silently in awe. After a time, she reached a small divot in the land of that Valley and laid herself amongst it, allowing herself to feel the soft arrow blades against the back of her knees and to smell the ochre of soil meeting sky.
She didn’t know how long she laid there, in the grass and the sun in the valley, but she knew it was time to leave. Standing again, she walked ever so carefully to leave no more trace than the soft ruffle of her shape in the spot where she had lain.
When she reached the top of the next hill, the girl looked back for a moment to remember the day she came upon an illustration come to life. She climbed those hills again later in her life, but never again stumbled onto the valley, sad to know it was not meant to be seen again but glad to have known it.
